Traffic Control

A requirement of SafeWork NSW and of RTO, any person that are workers in operational roles and / or are seeking entry to work in Traffic Control.

Course Overview

This course addresses the skills and knowledge for those responsible for stopping and starting traffic in temporary traffic management using a stop/slow bat or boom gate.

This program is a good entry point for those wishing to establish themselves into the traffic control/management industry.

This course does not qualify a participant to set up or work with traffic control plans.

To obtain a SafeWork NSW Traffic Control Work Training (TCWT)card, training and assessment must be carried out by a SafeWork NSW approved training provider.

Learning Outcomes
  • Stop/direct road users using a stop/slow bat and understand stopping sight distances
  • Monitor traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs according to traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes
  • Maintain traffic incident reports
  • Understand the Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGSs) also known as Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) for the site
  • Assess and respond to changes in the environment, for example traffic volumes, weather conditions, road conditions, Work, Health, and Safety (WHS) and operational requirements
  • Carry out risk assessments for personal safety
  • Participate in toolbox talks (specific to traffic control)
  • Use communication methods and devices
  • Conform to traffic control policy and procedures
Units Of Competency

 

  • RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and work procedures
  • RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIWHS205E Control traffic with a stop-slow bat
  • RIIWHS206 Control traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs
Course Pre-Requisites

It is recommended that you have experience in traffic control. 

  • A current white is required
  • Completion of the Traffic Control(Blue Card)
Training

Training will include: 

  • classroom activities 
  • theory questionnaires and group activities 
  • minimum practical implementation using full scale devices and vehicles in controlled and safe environments 
Assessment Requirements

This course requires in-class training and practical assessment.

  • In-class training consists of one day attendance of classroom-based training, theory, practical activities and allocated breaks
  • The live practical assessment is on a separate day and will need to be scheduled through your trainer on the day, the assessment will take half a day to complete and generally run the next day.
Cost

$250 Course Training Cost

Safework NSW card fee + Practical training at a cost of $70

This fee is payable at commencement of the first day of training.

Duration

1 Day Course –

On Completion the candidate will be able commence work immediately

Practical live assessment – to be completed on another the half day – generally the next day
